Volunteer Roles that can be done “outside of normal working hours” (aka: those you can do at home, mostly at whatever time you want):
Co/Vice President – I need someone to help me!!!! Ideally this person would take over as president next year.
Treasurer – Keeps the PTO’s checkbook, leads creating the budget, and generally in charge of the money.
Secretary/Scribe – Keeps meeting minutes at our monthly meetings
Program Director – Organizes the individual chairs of each of our events to make sure they get what they need. Helps to choose the events the Liberty PTO puts on.
Communications Director – Good with Facebook, Shutterfly, Social Networking in general? We would love to have you help make sure all our Liberty Families are kept up to date.
Support Services Lead – Organizes all the activities to thanks and support the teachers and staff at liberty (conference night dinners, teacher appreciation, etc)
Volunteer Coordinator – Gets information to our families on what volunteer needs we have upcoming (usually done via email and SignupGenius).
Fundraising Lead: Supports our Walk-a-Thon, helps coordinate our partnership with local businesses on fundraising opportunities, etc
Walk-a-Thon Chair: Leads the Walk-a-Thon committee to plan our main fundraising event. Much of this work is done over the summer with the Walk-a-Thon happening September 2015.
Spiritware Chair – Leads all things spiritware. Would be helpful to be able to be able to attend some of the events outside of school hours at the beginning of the year, but not required. This is another role that has some “summer work” in it.
Book Fair Chair – Works with Scholastic at the beginning of the year to run our Fall Book Fair, and with Barnes & Noble to schedule out event there (where they pretty much do all the work).
Yearbook – Like to scrapbook? WE NEED YOUR HELP! Help us put our yearbook together.
Membership Chair – Help us reach out and get members. Manage our member database.
Afterschool Enrichment – Work with area businesses to bring in afterschool opportunities for our students. Also organize the signups and placement of the students. Works with the Treasurer on paying vendors and collecting payment checks from families.
Box Tops – We need help someone to cut out and process the Box Tops and Labels for Education we get.
Roles that do need some “daytime commitment”:
District Parent Council Rep – We need two people who want to work directly with the Superintendent of Lakota Schools and the School Board to represent Liberty ECS and the other school’s Parent Groups. Meets once per month on Wednesdays from 10am – noon. Would need to be able to come to the meetings without children.
Bulletin Boards – Got a creative flare? We are looking for someone to design and update our 2 PTO Bulletin Boards at Liberty.
Event Chairs – Here you will be running a single and specific event (working with the Volunteer Coordinator to get help during the event). All our events generally already have a “cookbook” (sort of a lesson plan for the event), we just need someone to lead it. These would be events like Curie Newton (science day), Outdoor Classroom, Worm Lesson (this one is a rock star to the students), Art Enrichment, Family Fun Nights (Cool Critters, Skating Party, etc), Want to create something new? Sounds great!!!! We are always looking for new opportunities.
Popcorn Chair – Be your child’s hero and be the one to pop the popcorn for the monthly “Paw” Parties. Usually only takes about an hour (popcorn and popper provided).
Author Visit – Help us schedule great visitors to come in and work with our students. Most of the work can be done on “your time”, but the author does visit during school hours.
Teacher Appreciation Chair – Do you know great ways to say “thank you”? Want to get to know the teacher’s at Liberty ECS? This is the spot for you. Help us thank the teachers and staff at Liberty ECS.
If you have ANY questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Know someone you want to “buddy up with”? Feel free to tag-team and both of you do the position together!
The list of volunteer needs is long, but that is because most of the roles only requires a bit of work or coordination. The PTO is a lot of fun. Plus you get to help support your child while being a “cool parent” at the same time. And while I won’t say you get any special treatment, you get to take advantage of some “small group” or 1-1 time with some of the teachers and administration of Liberty ECS.
Be a part of this fun and energetic team. Take an active role in your child’s school. Become a member of the Liberty ECS PTO!
